Choc-full of Trouble

Choc-full of Trouble

It’s no secret that chocolate is bad for dogs and cats. This is primarily due to an ingredient named theobromine, a compound which acts similarly to caffeine.

If your pet accidentally consumes chocolate, the RSPCA warns you to look for signs of trouble that include:

  • restlessness
  • excitement
  • hyperactivity
  • nervousness
  • trembling
  • vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • increased drinking and increased urination
  • increased heart rate
  • muscle tremors
  • seizures.

If your pet does consume enough of the dreaded stuff, it can even die. If you suspect your pet has ingested some chocolate, the RSPCA recommends you call your vet for their advice and make sure you monitor your furry friend closely to make sure they’re not showing signs of any of the above.

Easter egg

Of course, just because they can’t eat cocoa doesn’t mean your pet won’t feel loved this Easter. Why not give them an egg that won’t cause them harm, like the Major Dog Snack Egg? This interactive treat toy is perfect for our little-pawed friends. Your dog can push and roll the Snack Egg around, resulting in dry kibble spilling out for your dog to enjoy. And the best part? They’re exercising their mind while they eat — and we all know a tired dog is a well-behaved one. For more information on the Major Dog Snack Egg, visit majordog.com.au.
