We’re all about a summer Christmas spent by the beach — preferably with our four-legged friends in tow!
If you’re celebrating Christmas on the sand with your pooch this year, here are some tips to consider:
- Always take lots of plastic bags to clean up your doggy mess. Leaving it is not only disgusting, but can result in a hefty fine
- Bring along a travel bowl and some fresh water for your dog to sip on when things get hot
- If you’re setting up for the day, make sure you have an umbrella or tent for your dog to take some shelter under. Heatstroke and sunburn are two very real dangers for pets in the sun
- If you plan on going swimming, make sure the current isn’t too strong, the waves aren’t too rough, and that you supervise your pet in the water at all times. While a lot of dogs have some basic swimming skills, not all do. Keeping your pet safe is a priority
- Take along some toys to keep your pet entertained with. We like Swimming Eddy, from Major Dog. Made from natural rubber, this dummy floats in the water, perfect for a game of fetch. With a bright colour and easy-to-throw shape, Swimming Eddy is bound to be on your dog’s Christmas wish list this year (majordog.com.au).
