Pet Toileting Tips

Do you have a cat that won’t use the litter box or a dog that just refuses to do its business outside? Here are some of our top toileting tips.

  • Pre-empt the movement. Most animals will need to toilet when they first wake up, so when you notice your four-legged friend is awake, take it to its litter box or designated toiling area.
  • Always reward your pet for toileting in the correct place. A treat and positive behaviour (petting, praise etc.) are recommended.
  • 1782502_636129739792500_303117801_oNever punish your pet for going in the wrong place. Rubbing its nose in it or reprimanding in a forceful manner will only create an unpleasant experience for the animal, and it won’t necessary gain a true sense of exactly what it did wrong.
  • Learn to look for signs that your pet needs to toilet. For dogs, a common one is sniffing the ground as if in search of something. Once the animal exhibits those signs, take them to the correct toilet area.
  • Empty and clean your pet’s litter box or toilet area regularly. We love products like Chandler Pet Litter that you can simply bury in the garden once used, acting as a fertiliser for the soil. We love it when nature comes together!
  • PetLoo_LargeTry new options. If you have to leave your dog inside all day but you want it to toilet outside when you’re home at night, why not look at a product like the Pet Loo.
